In Tarquinia, about ten kilometres from the campsite, one can visit the excavations; one of the most fascinating Etruscan necropolis, with painted tombs dating from VI to II century B.C.
In the small town, Palazzo Vitelleschi hosts the rich Etruscan National Museum: Etruscan and Greek vases, gold and bronze jewels, “buccheri”, the famous statue of the “Cavalli Alati” (Winged Horses), sarcophagi from different eras.
Also remarkable is the town center, with its medieval towers ( Santa Maria in Castello is the tallest), romanesque churches and the Town Hall facing an elegant XVIII century fountain, Further on, about twenty kilometres from Tarquinia , Vulci (a renowned archeological area) will surprise you with its medieval castle ( its access is across an Etruscan-Roman bridge) and its museum.
The Maremma countryside stretches all around, characterized by Etruscan and Roman ruins and by the vast necropoli of Vulci. It is easy to reach Tuscania from here.
Its churches, San Pietro and Santa Maria Maggiore, are a rare example of preromanesque architecture. Pay a visit to the museum of Santa Maria del Riposo and admire its rare collection of Etruscan sarcophagi, and then stroll along the ancient town center, full of small restaurants and picturesque art shops.
Sixty minutes from the village is Rome and its Vatican Museums, as well as the Medieval towns of Orvieto, Pitigliano and Viterbo.OUR NUMBERS
